River erosion in Bera as water level rises in Jamuna

About half a hundred bigha of arable and crop land has been lost in the river in three hours due to the severe erosion of the Jamuna river. The people of the area were disoriented by the sudden intensity of the collapse.

In Charnagdah village of Charanchal area of Haturia-Nakalia union of Bara upazila of Pabna, it was reported that about 40-50 bigha of arable and crop land was lost in the river due to severe erosion of Jamuna River on Friday night.

 Residents of Charnagdah village and local UP member Zahid Molla, Haji Ismail Master and many locals said that the Jamuna River suddenly started eroding around 7 pm on Friday. In a span of just three hours, heavy erosion started from the house of Haji Ismail, Hamid, Fakir Molla and Zahid Member and reached Kathbagan at a distance of about one and a half kilometers. The people of the area were frightened by the sudden erosion. They also said that in just a few hours, about 50 bigha of arable and crop land of Charnagdah Mauza disappeared under the river. 

Many people including Zahid Molla, Majnu Molla, Fakir Chand Molla, Mannan Molla, Aziz Molla, Fazlal Molla, Sobhan Sarkar, Moksed Molla, Yunus Sarkar Alamgir Master said that they had some Aman paddy, Napier grass and vegetable crops in these lands. These people are now disoriented after losing arable and crop lands.

Hamid Sarkar, chairman of Haturia-Nakalia UP, said that several local people, including Zahid Molla, UP member of that ward, informed him about the erosion on Friday night. Today (Saturday) I will inform the Upazila Nirbahi Officer and the newly elected Deputy Speaker Advocate Shamsul Haque Tuku.
