The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW) has recently announced an increase in the allowance of intern doctors by 5,000 taka. According to the announcement, the allowance of intern doctors has been increased to 20,000 taka, effective from 1st April. The decision was taken in consideration of the number of students admitted 4700 people from the unspent money allocated to the general bulk allocation sector of the health care department in the revised budget of the current fiscal year 2023-24.
However, the ministry has also laid down some conditions for the allowance increase. It has been stated that all financial regulations must be properly followed in the expenditure of this money and relevant bill paying authorities will be responsible for any irregularities in the future. The money cannot be used for any other purpose except payment of allowance of intern doctors. Additionally, the amount should be reflected in the revised budget of the current fiscal year 2023-24 in the relevant sector. The Administrative Ministry shall issue 4 copies of the Government Order (GO) following all formalities and send it to the Finance Department for pagination.
It has been further informed that the allowance will be paid on confirmation of
availability and the increased rate will be effective from 1st April 2024. The arrears of allowance prior to this date will be admissible at the earlier rate.
The decision of increasing the allowance of intern doctors has been welcomed by many and is expected to boost the morale of the doctors and motivate them to work harder. This move by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is a step towards improving the healthcare sector and providing better facilities to the people.
