Sharmeen S Murshid, Adviser on Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs said that right to information is very important to build a democratic environment in the country.
He came up with the statement at the annual training conference of the 'Women's Progress in Access to Information Project' organized by The Carter Center and Humanity Foundation (MJF) in Gulshan on Wednesday morning.
Through this project, he called for organizing training on Right to Information law for the officials of his ministry.
Emphasizing the importance of remembering the sacrifices of the youth and people of Bangladesh since 1971, Sharmin S. Murshid said, we have been given another chance to rebuild our nation.
The culture of privacy must be changed to encourage information disclosure. When information is not readily available, misinformation can easily be established.
Highlighting the importance of the project, MJF Executive Director Shaheen Anam said that this initiative proves that when women get the right to information, they not only empower themselves, but also bring about change in their families, especially among marginalized women.
Gender discrimination violates women's rights and this project aims to establish gender equality by providing access to information through the Right to Information Act (RTI).
The Right to Information Act is a law that empowers citizens to participate meaningfully in society.
