A total of 58 metric tonnes of rice and Tk one lakh allotted by the government was distributed among 5,800 families of the helpless, including beggars, laborers, hawkers, rickshaw pullers, auto rickshaw drivers, tea sellers in Ishwardi upazila of Pabna.
The initiative was taken by the Ishwardi Upazila administration. From last week, rice distribution activities began in Ishwardi municipal areas and unions.
The government has declared a public holiday to prevent coronavirus infection. The holiday started on March 25. According to the latest announcement, the holidays are expected to end on April 14. Due to the holidays, factories, all kinds of vehicles, educational institutes have been declared closed. In this way the lower income people of the society became jobless.
Ishwardi Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shihab Raihan said that this initiative has been taken to distribute rice to help the low income, unemployed people and families so that they do not suffer from food crisis. From this allocation, every poor family is being given 10 kg rice.
