Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Mainul Hasan on Saturday called upon the citizens to adhere to laws and regulations, acknowledging that full police services may be delayed during the ongoing crisis.
"Restoring full police services may take some time due to the current situation in the country. We ask for your trust, and we will strive to deliver the best service with our professionalism," he said at a press briefing held at the DMP media center.
The DMP chief also emphasized the importance of public cooperation with traffic police. "Reducing traffic congestion to a manageable level is possible with everyone's cooperation," he noted.
Addressing ongoing legal actions, Commissioner Mainul mentioned that cases have already been filed against those involved in recent disturbances. "The legal process is continuous, and while it may take time to fully unfold, it is actively ongoing," he said.
In response to questions about the arrest and remand of high-profile individuals, the DMP Commissioner clarified, "Those placed on remand are suspects in cases related to the recent movement. The police are investigating whether they were involved in inciting unrest through financial support, advice, or public statements."
When asked about officers with a reputation for unprofessional behavior, Hasan stressed the importance of professionalism within the force. "We aim to build a disciplined police force where every officer, regardless of their background, operates with the utmost professionalism," he asserted.
On the topic of corruption within the police, the DMP Commissioner assured that there would be zero tolerance for corruption, irregularities, and misconduct within the force.
Addressing the use of firearms during the quota-reform protests, he pointed out that both licensed and illegal weapons were used during the unrest.
He concluded by expressing gratitude to the Ansar and BGB members for their support to the police during this challenging period.
