Responsible behavior must to protect environment

World Environment Day celebrated in DU

On the occasion of World Environment Day 2022, Disaster Management Studio, Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies, University of Dhaka and Gender Responsive Resilience and Intersectivity in Policy and Practice at the University on Sunday.

Seminar on “Eco-DRR and Intersectionality” was held. Speakers at the seminar said the focus will be on environmental protection to reduce disasters and health risks. Everyone must play a responsible role in protecting the environment. The speakers also emphasized on determining one's role in environmental management as an individual.

Dr Mahbuba Nasreen, Vice-Chancellor (Education), Bangladesh Open University, will present the keynote address at the seminar, chaired by Dr Dilara Zahid, Director (Acting), Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies. She said that in order to reduce the risk of disasters, we need to give utmost importance to the normalization of the environment and ecology. Social organizations and individuals involved in disaster risk reduction activities are working to protect the environment and climate through their practices and practices. She said that special emphasis should be laid on gender equality and development of technical skills.

Sohanur Rahman, Executive Coordinator, Youth Net for Climate Justice, joined the discussion. "Now is the time to save people," he said. The big question now is whether we can survive or not. We depend on nature. Nature cannot be destroyed. There will be development. There will be profit in trade and commerce. That development-profit should not harm nature. Development and trade must be responsible. He also urged everyone to play their role in protecting the environment from their place.

It is to be noted that the theme of this year's World Environment Day is 'Sustainable Life in the Harmony of Nature' and the slogan is 'One World'.
