On August 21, we remember the legendary Bangladeshi actor and director Nayak Raj Razzak, marking the 7th anniversary of his passing. Born on January 23, 1942, in Nagtola, Kolkata, Razzak's impact on Bangla cinema remains profound and enduring.

Razzak's film career began with his role in the movie “Shilalipi.” In 1964, he relocated to Dhaka, where he connected with producer Abdul Jabbar Khan and joined Iqbal Films. His directorial debut came with “Chanpa Dangar Bou,” but it was his acting that truly made him a star.

Known as Nayak Raj Razzak—a title bestowed upon him by Ahmed Zaman Chowdhury—he quickly rose to prominence in Dhallywood. His early theatre work in Kolkata and subsequent films paved the way for his success. Following his migration to East Pakistan due to the 1964 riots, Razzak initially appeared in TV dramas before making a significant impact in films.

His breakthrough came with “Tero Nombor Feku Ostagar Lane,” and he continued to captivate audiences with performances in “Neel Akasher Nichey,” “Maynamati,” and “Jibon Theke Neya.” Razzak is particularly remembered for his role in “Rangbaj,” Bangladesh’s first modern action film.

Beyond acting, Razzak was a successful director and producer. His film “Akankha” in 1976 marked his entry into production, and he directed around sixteen movies over his career. In 2015, he was honored with the Independence Day Award for his contributions to cinema.

Razzak was married to Khirunnesa, known as Laxmi, and had three sons—Bapparaj, Bappi, and Samrat—and two daughters, Nasrin Pasha and Afrin Alam. He passed away on August 21, 2017, leaving behind a legacy of over 300 films and a lasting impact on the industry. Today, fans and colleagues remember him with admiration and respect.
