On behalf of Emeritus Professor Dr Emajuddin Ahmed, relief items were distributed among 50 poor families affected by coronavirus spread in the capital on Thursday.
Mohammad Olid Siddiqui Talukder, a member of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ), distributed the relief food on behalf of Dr Emajuddin Ahmed. Each family received 2 kg rice, 4 eggs, 500 grams pulses and half a litter of oil at the time.
In a statement, Dr Emajuddin Ahmed said that Prime Minister has repeatedly told that leaders and workers of the party to stand beside poor families at this time of crisis. On the contrary, the leaders and activists of the party have been involved in theft of relief by disobeying the directive. Every day in some districts, such incidents are taking place, he alleged.
He said that extreme poverty has increased by 60 percent and 14 percent of people do not have food in their homes. For the proper implementation of social distance measures, food items must reach the people in crisis nationwide sooner or it will be impossible to keep them in their homes, he added.
