The regulator at Musapur union under Companiganj Upazila in Noakhali district collapsed due to excessive pressure of upstream flood water on Monday. As a result, the locals are in panic.

At first, the middle part of the regulator suddenly collapsed at around 10:00am on Monday. At one point, the whole regulator collapsed and it was washed away in the Meghna River.

The locals said the water from the upstream started coming down with massive pressure through the regulator for more than the last one week. A crack developed on the west side of the regulator on Saturday. The Water Development Board immediately handled the situation using some geo bags. However, cracks suddenly developed on the whole regulator at around 10:00am on Monday and the middle part of it broke. At one point, the whole regulator collapsed and washed away in the Meghna River. A CNG-run auto rickshaw that was on the regulator at that time went under water as well.

Executive Engineer of Noakhali Water Development Board, Munshi Amir Faysal, confirmed the matter and said the incident occurred at around 10:00am on Monday. A huge amount of floodwater of Feni came down through the 23 gates of the regulator for the past few days. The higher authorities were informed about the matter. A team is supposed to come soon. However, there is no reason to be panicked so much. The water will recede.
