The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) has extended the registration period for student admissions from classes I to IX in lottery-based schools until November 10. Previously, the registration deadline was set for November 8. This extension was granted following an application by Teletalk Bangladesh Limited, as several institutions were unable to complete the registration on time.
According to a DSHE notification, the admission process for the 2025 academic year will cover all public and private secondary schools at the upazila level. The registration form must adhere to the latest admission guidelines from the Ministry of Education, and seats per class should not exceed 55 students. In Dhaka, each institution must set a catchment area within three neighboring thanas (police stations), and only online bank details are accepted.
School heads will bear full responsibility if any inaccurate information is submitted. The DSHE further announced that student applications for admission will open online from November 12 to November 30, followed by a lottery in December. Classes are scheduled to begin in January, following the completion of the admission process.
Originally, only first-grade admissions were conducted via lottery, but since 2021, due to COVID-19, all classes have used the lottery system for student selection, which continues this year.
Changes in quota policies have also been introduced. The 5% quota reserved for the grandchildren of martyred freedom fighters will now prioritize direct descendants, and if no eligible candidates are found, admissions will proceed from the general merit list.
