We express our concern over the question paper leakage of recruitment test for five state-owned banks. Reportedly, on Saturday (Nov 6), a total of 116,427 jobseekers sat for the recruitment test against 1,511 posts. But the leaked questions reached several thousand job seekers long before the tests. Besides, the answers for the test were available online before the examination was held. Following the incident, the Bangladesh Bank cancelled the preliminary examination for the appointment of officers (cash) of five banks, citing unavoidable reasons.

Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST) was in charge of preparing and managing question papers of the preliminary examination under the Bangladesh Bankers' Selection Committee.

A special squad of Detective Branch of Police arrested 10 people in connection with leaking question paper of recruitment test for five state-owned banks on Wednesday. The plainclothes police seized a laptop, five mobile phones, images of four question papers and answer sheets on WhatsApp, photocopies of an admit card, and Tk 6 lakhs in cash from their possession. An AUST technician arrested in this connection admitted that he collected the copies of the questions with help of other colleagues working at the university. People who are involved with question paper leakage, sold a set of question to a person for Tk 15 lakhs. The gang earned crores of taka exchanging the questions.
We think such unethical and unwarranted activities may destroy the all public job recruitment system as a whole. Therefore, the authorities concerned must take stern measures to check question paper leakage in the recruitment test for public examinations. Besides, they will have to seal off all loopholes to stop question paper leakage.
Alongside taking strong security measures the government must develop some innovative systems including introduction of lottery to choose question sets so that question papers are not leaked.
We hope that the government would be able to hold the public examination peacefully and stop question paper leakage. All departments concerned must work sincerely to root out all possible sources of question paper leakage as a vested quarter are involved with the malpractices. Also, the government should ensure exemplary punishment to those who are involved in such crime.
