Recovered firearms, ammunition handed over to SP in Munshiganj

A total of 140 firearms and 3934 rounds of ammunition, along with other government equipments recovered from Munshiganj sadar upazila were handed over to Munshiganj Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Aslam Khan on Sunday.

Among the firearms and ammunition, there were rifles, pistols, shotguns, light machine guns, tear gas shell launchers, magazines and bullets. Other government equipments and Tk 1,09,500 were also handed over to the SP.

It was learnt that after the fall of Sheikh Hasina government onAugust 5, many police stations across the country were looted, vandalized and set on fire. In that situation, members of Bangladesh Army patrolled Munshiganj sadar upazila under ‘In Aid to Civil Power’ led by Lieutenant Colonel Jubayer Mohammad Khaled Hossain from August 14 to take control of the situation. They recovered 140 firearms, 3934 rounds of ammunitions, other government equipments and Tk 1,09,500 from the people during their patrolling.

The recovered arms, ammunitions, government equipments and money were handed over to SP Mohammad Aslam Khan on Sunday. 

The handing over programme was moderated by Captain Md Rifat Rahman and Captain Charles. Print and media journalists were present at that time. 

It was learnt that people willingly and spontaneously returned the arms, ammunition, along with the money and government equipments to the members of Bangladesh Army. People are given till August 30 to willingly return the looted arms and ammunition. 

However, measure according to instructions will be taken after August 30 for those who did not return the weapons.
