Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport is ready to receive the observers, delegates and journalists coming to Bangladesh for the 12th Jatiya Sangsad election slated for January 7, 2024.
The government has opened a reception lounge at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport for the election observers.
"We are happy to announce that Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport is now ready to receive the distinguished observers, delegates, and journalists coming to Bangladesh for the national election on January 7, 2024," the foreign ministry said.
"There will be an airport reception lounge just before immigration for the delegates. Ample number markers have been placed along the arrival bays leading to the reception lounge. There will be information packages and host officials ready to assist the incoming delegates," according to the foreign ministry.
The government has received applications from 180 people from 35 countries to observe the election.
So far 10 countries - India, Sri Lanka, China, Russia, Japan, Uzbekistan, Mauritius, Georgia, Palestine, and Gambia - have confirmed their participation.
Besides, OIC, Commonwealth, and Arab Parliament will also observe the election. A four-member EU expert panel is also in Dhaka to observe the election.
An IRI, NDI joint team will also observe the election.
About 30 other officials from different countries will come to Bangladesh as election observers, the foreign ministry's spokesperson said last week.
