Reading competition finale held at DIU

Grand Finale of DIU Reading Competition and Inauguration of DIU Reader’s Club’ was held on Wednesday at banquet hall of Daffodil International University (DIU).

Ismat Jahan Nabila, student of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department became champion while Tanzina Akther Trisha, student of Pharmacy Department became 1st runner up and Ikteder Islam, student of English Department became 2nd runner up in this competition. Country’s renowned writer of Bangla Literature, Anwara Syed Haq was present as the chief guest at the programme and distributed prizes among the winners while Professor A M M Hamidur Rahman, dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Science, DIU was the special guest.

Presided over by Professor Dr Yousuf Mahbubul Islam, vice chancellor of DIU, the programme was addressed by Professor Dr Golam Mowla Choudhury, controller of examination, Dr Milan Khan, librarian, Md Rakibul Hasan Khan, associate professor and head, Department of English of DIU.

After distributing prizes, the guests formally inaugurated the DIU Reader’s Club where Ms Farzana Yasmin, Lecturer, Department of English has been elected as the moderator of the club. 

While addressing among the students as the chief guest Professor Anwara Syed Haq said,” You have no alternative of reading. You have to read various types of books to sharp and explore your knowledge. You have to read not only the text books, but also read fiction and nonfictions. Your reading habit will make you skilled on language, writing, thinking, making question etc. So, you must have to read a lot”.

It may be mentioned that the competition started in last year and after completing 6 rounds, the final round was held today where 6 contestants qualified for the final. A total of 45 contestants took part in the competition.
