People in Raozan upazila of Chattogram are suffering due to the unfinished work on two sections of an important road in Chikdair union of the upazila. The two contractors responsible for the work of the road went into hiding, leaving the work unfinished.

It was learnt that, the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) has taken up a project for the improvement of two sections of Hazrat Akbar Shah Road, named Section-1 and Section-2, which were damaged by floods. Under the supervision of LGED, a budget of Tk 3.18 crore was allocated, and the road development work began on September 13 in 2023. The road construction work is still not completed, and the two contractors went into hiding after abandoning the project. Contractors Rajib Chowdhury Raju and Kazi Masud Rana went into hiding, abandoning the road construction work, after the fall of the government.

The locals complained that the bricks used for this road construction are of very low quality.

Chikdair Union Parishad Panel Chairman said after the government's downfall, the two contractors went into hiding after abandoning the road construction work. As a result, the road construction has come to a halt. He demanded that the construction of the road to be completed quickly while maintaining the quality of the work.

A local resident named Tushar said the contractor is using low-quality bricks instead of standard quality bricks for the work. We will take charge of our road construction. We will not allow any substandard work here. Currently, the residents of the area are suffering severely as construction word on the road remained halted.

Contractor of the section-1 of Akbar Shah road, Kazi Masud Rana, said due to the temporary situation, the road work was halted. We will start the road work within a week. However, he mentioned that there are no irregularities in the road construction. Contractor of the section-2 of Akbar Shah road, Razib Chowdhury Razu, said no low-quality materials were used in the road construction and that the residents' complaints are false.

Upazila Engineer of Raozan LGED Abul Kalam said contractors Rajib Chowdhury and Masud Rana were not in the area. I have spoken with the two contractors, and they assured me that they will soon resume the road construction work. If there are any irregularities in the road construction, action will be taken.
