Rangpur division recorded only one new Covid-19 case with no deaths on Thursday as the pandemic situation continues improving in the last couple of months.
Health officials said the one fresh Covid-19 case was reported from Rangpur after testing 262 collected samples of all eight districts of the division at the daily average positivity rate of 0.38 percent on Thursday.
"With this, the number of Covid-19 cases reached 55,241 in the division," Divisional Deputy Director (Health) Dr Abu Md Zakirul Islam said that on Friday noon.
"The district-wise break up of total 55,244 patients include 12,447 of Rangpur, 3,800 Panchagarh, 4,437 of Nilphamari, 2,737 of Lalmonirhat, 4,636 of Kurigram, 7,604 of Thakurgaon, 14,723 of Dinajpur and 4,857 of Gaibandha in the division," he added. Meanwhile, the total number of Covid-19 casualties remained steady at 1,239 as n o new fatality was reported from the division on Thursday.
"Earlier, no Covid-19 fatality was recorded on May 16 last and on September 12, 13, 14, 20, 22, 26, 29 and 30 and October 2, 3, 6, 7, 9, 10, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20 last in the division," Dr Zakirul said.
The district-wise break up of the 1,239 fatalities currently stands at 293 in Rangpur, 80 in Panchagarh, 88 in Nilphamari, 68 in Lalmonirhat, 69 in Kurigram, 252 in Thakurgaon, 326 in Dinajpur and 63 in Gaibandha of the division.
The average fatality rate currently stands at 2.24 percent in the division.
Divisional Director (Health) Dr Md Motaharul Islam said a total of 2,90,533 collected samples were tested till Thursday, and of them, 55,241 were found Covid-19 positive with an average positivity rate of 19.01 percent in the division.
Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, the number of healed patients reached 52,893 with recovery of 18 more infected patients on Thursday in the division where the average recovery rate currently stands at 95.75 percent.
The 52,893 recovered patients include 11,325 of Rangpur, 3,671 Panchagarh, 4,341 Nilphamari, 2,625 Lalmonirhat, 4,527 Kurigram, 7,268 Thakurgaon, 14,350 in Dinajpur and 4,786 Gaibandha districts in the division.
Among the 55,241 patients, 39 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including four critical patients at ICU beds and four at High Dependency Unit beds, after recovery of 52,893 patients and 1,239 deaths while 1,070 are remaining in home isolation.
"Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine rose to 45,30,371, and among them, 21,57,753 got the second dose of the jab till Thursday in the division," he said.
Talking to BSS, Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu expressed satisfaction over the improving Covid-19 situation in the last two months in the division.
Despite the improving coronavirus situation, he called upon every citizen to abide by the health directives to contain further spread of the deadly virus in the division.
