Some twenty journalists of different print as well as electronic media were provided with financial assistance from the prime minister’s fund aiming at tackling ongoing corona pandemic in Rangamati.
The cheques giving programme was held at the conference room of Rangamati deputy commissioner’s office in the town on Sunday. Bangladesh Sangbadik Kalyan Trust organised the event.
Reaz Hyder Chowdhury, vice president of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ), was the chief guest while Rangamati deputy commissioner AKM Mamunur Rashid chaired the function.
Mohsin Kazi, joint secretary of BFUJ, Rangamati ASP Chitta Ranjan Paul and Mayor of Rangamati municipality Akbar Hossain Chowdhury, were also present in the programme.
In his speech, Reaz Hyder Chowdhury said no one state chief has so far taken such rare initiative for the welfare of journalists in the world, even not in neighbouring India. Only our prime minister Sheikh Hasina, daughter of father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, gestured from the humanitarian ground point of view and set this rare instance for the first time ever, he said, adding that Tk 10 thousand may be a meager amount but it’s a recognition from the state.
She (Hasina) loves us and she has passion toward journalists. It’s not incentive in this corona pandemic, but it’s a gift from our PM, said Reaz.
Without considering political identity, every newsman will be brought under this programme in phases. Don’t need be disappointed. It’s a continuous process, he said this aiming at newsmen who were excluded from the list in this time.
The current government led by Sheikh Hasina has been working relentlessly for the betterment of the country and its people for the sake of upholding spirit of the war of liberation, added Reaz.
Mohsin Kazi said that during BNP-Jaamat regime, only the pressmen who were loyal to their parties were received benefits from the government. But almost all the journalists in the country are being provided with various facilities from the government in this time, said Kazi, adding, it’s not incentive in this pandemic. It’s a gift from the PM.
Urging, deputy commissioner AKM Mamunur Rashid said that the newsmen should have come to in a common platform and under an umbrella for the greater interest by keeping themselves above all dissidences and disunity. If they once get united, they could work better for the welfare of the society and for themselves, added DC.
