The operation at Ramgarh land port, including import-export and passenger transit, will not begin anytime soon. However, once the ongoing development projects are completed, the government will decide on its inauguration, said the newly appointed Chairman of Ramgarh Land Port Mohammad Manzarul Mannan.
When he was asked why the land port did not open, even though the opening date was announced several times on various occasion earlier, he said it is better to open the land port after all the works are completed.
Mohammad Manzarul Mannan came up with the assertion while talking to journalists during a visit to monitor the development work of Ramgarh land port.
He said, once this port is operational, trade between Bangladesh and India will expand, and it will benefit both countries.
Expressing satisfaction with the current progress, he said, the work at Sheola land port in Beanibazar, Sylhet, and Ramgarh is ongoing under the same project. Land ports have been established in other parts of the country as well. However, the construction, design, and planning of the Ramgarh land port are all excellent.
Meanwhile, a source said, the Adviser to the Ministry of Shipping, Brigadier General (R) Dr M Sakhawat Hussain, will visit Ramgarh Land Port. The Chairman of the Port Authority visited the land port on Friday to assess the progress and preliminary preparations ahead of the Advisor's visit. However, the source said that the date for the advisor's visit has not yet been finalized.
The Project Director (PD) of the Ramgarh Land Port Development Project, Md Sarwar Alam, said the Adviser to the Ministry of Shipping was fully informed about the Ramgarh Land Port, and he expressed interest in visiting the port.
He further added that although development projects in other areas connected to India have been suspended, the development work at the Ramgarh Land Port is continuing as planned and progressing rapidly. The work on the road expansion project connecting Ramgarh to Baraeiharhat is also ongoing. This road project is expected to be completed by June 2025. As soon as the roadwork is completed, the ongoing infrastructure construction of the Ramgarh Land Port will also be finished.
