Chief Executive Officer of Rajshahi Zila Parishad Mohammad Nuruzzaman and his assistant were detained by the Narcotics Control Department while carrying Phencidyl in government vehicle.
He was detained from the toll plaza of the Mahananda Bridge in Chapainawabganj around 10pm on Friday.
According to sources, Nuruzzaman, the CEO (Deputy Secretary) of the Zila Parishad was going to Rajshahi in his official vehicle carrying five large bottles of cold drinks filled with Phencidyl.
On the basis of secret information, officials of Chapainawabganj Narcotics Control Department office searched the vehicle and found Phensedyl. Later, Nuruzzaman and his accomplice were arrested.
Rajshahi Divisional Deputy Director (DD) of the Department of Narcotics Control Jafrullah Kajal confirmed the information.
Deputy Commissioner of Chapainawabganj Manjurul Hafeez said, he have heard about the incident. Now the Department of Narcotics Control will decide whether to file a case against him under the Narcotics Act or a departmental case. He added that there is no scope for him to avoid the consequences.
