Rajshahi div to get 30 more ICUs

Rajshahi division is getting 30 more ICUs to be used in the hospitals of Rajshahi and Bogura districts, informed Dr. Habibul Ahsan Taluder, Director of Health, Rajshahi division to the journalists recently. 

It is learnt that Rajshahi Divisional Health Directorate sought 121 ICUs to the Ministry of Health for the hospitals of eight districts of the division.

According to sources, though less in numbers, there were 51 seats with ICUs in the government hospitals of Rajshahi and Bogura districts of which 20 are in Rajshahi Medical College Hospita and 31 are in Bogura Shahid Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital. 

Moreover, there are eight ICUs in Mohammad Ali Hospital in Bogura and some others in private hospitals in TMSS Medical College in Bogura  and Khawaja Younus Ali Medical College and Hospital in Pabna. There is no ICUs in Chapainawabganj, Natore, Naogoan, Joypurhat and Sirajganj districts.

Divisional Health Diector of Rajshahi Dr. Habibul Ahsan Talukder said, though 123 ICUs' were sought, the Ministry of Health allocated 30 ICUs from Rajshahi and Bogura. Those will arrive within the month of April. Out of these sanctioned ICUs, 10 will be set up in Rajshahi Medical College Hospital while the rest 20 will be set up at Bogura SZMCH. 

He further said, increase of beds with ICUs will not work in containing Corona unless there is no supply of Central Oxygen systems. There will be no benefit of setting up ICUs in the upazila and the district level hospital without the system of central Oxygen supply. That is why ICUs are not being installed where there is no facility of central system of supplying Oxygen. He informed, works are continuing to set up Central Oxygen Supply in some hospitals of some districts of the division.
