Rajshahi BNP leader gets three years

BNP leader Abu Sayed Chand has been awarded three years of non-rigorous imprisonment by a court in Rajshahi on Sunday afternoon.  The court has also fined him Tk. 5,000 or to serve one year more of imprisonment in case of non-realisation of the fine.

Judge Maruf Allam of Judicial Magistrate court-1 pronounced the judgment in the presence of Abu Sayed Chand in a crowded courtroom. The other two accused in the case were acquitted by the court. 

According to the appeal of the case, the defendants in the case misappropriated Taka 14 lakh 52 thousand by offering jobs to some candidates at Bamundighu Chalk Jhira Technical School in 2007. One Masud Rana of Chalk Gochar village of Charghat upazila filed the case with the court. Abu Sayed Chand was then the Chairman of Solua Union and also President of the Governing Body of the school. Abu Sayed Chand was made the Number-1 defendant of the case while two other defendants of the case were the Head Master of the School Alim Uddin and the incumbent Head Master of of Naodapara Di-mukhi High School Waz Nabi.  By not getting the job even after paying the money, the deprived candidates at first went to file a case with the local police station. But, when the police did not accept the case, they filed the case with the court. 

The verdict of the case was pronounced on Sunday afternoon. Parvez Toufique Zahedi, lawyer of the defendants informed, they did not receive justice that is why they would move to the higher court. Moreover, he said, the case was settled between the plaintiffs and the defendants out of the court earlier and the documents regarding the settlement have been submitted to the court but the court did not accept the documents and pronounced the judgment. 

Additional Public Prosecutor of the court Ahsan Habib in this connection said, the total number of victims of the case was 22 of whom only one was the defendant of the case. He settled the case out of the court but two other victims of the case applied to the court to continue the case which was granted by the court.

It is learned a case was filed with Puthia thana against BNP leader Abu Sayed Chand for a controversial public speech at a meeting in Baneswar. Aby Sayed Chand was arrested on May 25 in connection with the controversial speech and a total of 27 cases have been filed against BNP leader Abu Sayed Chand in various places in the country. At present a total of 73 cases are pending in various courts of the country against BNP leader Chand.
