With the end of winter, spring came welcoming the hot weather that unfolds before us in the recent days. As soon as the weather heated up, prayers for some downpour began by the dwellers of Moulvibazar. Rain has blessed the urban life in Moulovibazar as they got relief from the scorching heat.

It started raining in Moulvibazar town around 6:00pm on Saturday. The district town was drenched in rain for more than an hour.

Meanwhile, due to the cloudy sky throughout the day, the movement of people in the city decreased on that time. The meteorological office shared that there was light to moderate rain, with temporary gusts in different parts of the district.

Due to rain and wind, the electricity went off immediately leaving the whole city in darkness. The only noticeable lights were the headlights of vehicles on roads and the flickering lights of shops.

A tea seller on Mujtaba Ali Road in the city said that they were expecting the rain in the evening due to winds from the afternoon. Candles were lit in the shops.

Imam Uddin, a farmer from Baralekha Upazila, informed that it started raining at 6:30pm. During the Bengali months of Poush and Magh, the farmers grow ‘Boro paddy’. Basically a lot of water is needed at this time. Due to the dry season, the rice seedlings were almost in a state of stagnation. The little rain seemed to change the direction of those seedlings.

Kamran Ahmed, a student of Moulvibazar Polytechnic, said that it rained after a long time. Sadly, their semester final exams are underway and with the power gone out, they had to study under candle light.

Srimangal meteorological office meteorologist Jahedul Islam Masum said that there could be more rain in the next 24 to 48 hours.

He said one millimeter of rain was recorded in Srimangal from 6:55 pm to 7:15 pm. This is the first rain of the season with more to come soon enough.
