A total of 85 temporary gatemen of Bangladesh Railway Pakshi divisional level have been sacked. They have four months salary arrears and were fired without receiving them.

The 65 gatekeepers who lost their jobs staged a sit-in, demonstration and hunger strike at the Pakshi Divisional Railway Officer’s (DRM) office in Ishwardi, Pabna, demanding their jobs be restored. These events took place on Wednesday afternoon.

“We have been fired for no apparent reason,” said one of the protesters. In this corona pandemic, they are in trouble with four months salary arrears as they have families to feed.  They announced that they would continue the movement until their jobs are reinstated.

The gatekeepers from Khulna, Ishwardi and other areas of Railway Pakshi divisional level surrounded the office of the divisional railway manager on Wednesday afternoon and staged a protest and hunger strike in front of the office.

President of Jatiya Sramik League Ishwardi Upazila Branch Jahangir Alam, President of Railway Sramik League Ishwardi Branch Rafiqul Islam Swapan, President of Pakshi Branch Iqbal Haider, convener of the program organising committee Shishir Mahmud and others took part in these programs.

Later, they handed over an affidavit containing various demands to Asadul Haque, Pakshi Divisional Railway Manager.
