Railway Minister inaugurates operation of double line trains

Railways Minister MdNurul Islam Sujan inaugurated the 24 km dual-gauge double-line train at Laksam-Comilla section at Comilla railway station on Saturday.

Speaking at the inaugural function, the Railways Minister said that at one time the railways were destroyed. 

“Incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has revived the damaged railway. There are many projects underway in the railways at present. Single line is being converted to double line in phases. New bridges are being built. Connections are being provided in areas of the country where there is no rail connection,”he said. 

The minister mentioned that the new railway line will be launched in Cox's Bazar in December 2022. A railway bridge is being constructed over the river JamunaRiver which will be inaugurated in 2024. Many projects like these have been undertaken for the development of railways.

The Railways Minister further mentioned that the more developed a country is, the better is its rail connectivity.

He also called for raising public awareness against throwing stones on trains for safe travel.

The Railways Minister further mentioned that 125 luggage vans are being procured. 

“Initiatives have been taken to transport agricultural products. As a result, farmers will be able to supply their products at affordable prices across the country.” he added. 

A new 72 km dual gauge railway line is being constructed in Akhaura-Laksam section and the existing 72 km gauge railway line is being converted to dual gauge. 

The Railways Minister inaugurated the 24 km train service in Laksam-Comilla section on Saturday. 

Comilla-5 constituency Advocate AbulHashem Khan MP was present as the special guest at the inaugural function presided over by Director General of Bangladesh Railway DhirendraNathMajumder.

Senior officials including Eastern Railway General Manager Jahangir Hossain were present on the occasion.
