Trial run for Ishwardi-Rooppur rail track for transporting equipments to Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP) in Ishwardi was conducted on last Tuesday.
Officials of Railway Western Zone and Pakshi Divisional Department of Railways visited the trial run site of Ishwardi Station to RNPP Station, a press report of RNPP said.
Project documents said that 22 kilometers of rail track has been laid and the construction project has been completed from Ishwardi to Rooppur. Meanwhile, 4.5 km of loopline, a railway station, 7 culverts, 13 level crossing gates and signal construction have been also completed. The prokect cost was estimated at 336 crore Tk.
A new rail track has been laid in the place of old pilot train treack which was sconstracted at British era to travel from Ishwardi to Pakshi.
This project was a joint venture of Indian GPT and Bangladeshi SEL and CCl.
