Bangladesh Railway has formed a five-member committee to investigate the reasons behind the derailment of a fuel oil-laden train at Sreemangal in Moulvibazar that suspended rail communication between Sylhet and the rest of the country since Saturday.
The committee, headed by Divisional Transportation Officer of Bangladesh Railway Md Moinul Hossain, has been asked to submit report within seven working days.
However, rail communication of Sylhet with Dhaka and Chattogram was restored on Sunday after a 23-hour disruption due to the derailment.
Khalilur Rahman, manager of Sylhet Railway Station, said the Dhaka-bound Parabat and Udayan and Chattogram-bound Upoban trains did not leave the station due to the derailment.
The schedule of Sylhet-bound trains Kalni and Upoban from Dhaka has been cancelled, he said, adding that the ticket prices of all the passengers of these two trains will be refunded.
Dulal Chandra Das, senior assistant engineer of Bangladesh Railway Sylhet Division, said that the other members of the committee are Divisional Engineer (Dhaka) Sultan Ali, Divisional Signal and Telecommunication Engineer (Dhaka) Abu Hena, Divisional Engineer (Mechanical) Rezaul Karim and Divisional Electrical Engineer (Wagon) Rezaul Karim.
A small culvert and around 200 feet of rail lines have been damaged due to the derailment, said the railway's Divisional Engineer (Dhaka) Sultan Ali, who is also a member of the committee.
