RAB-7 has arrested Enamul Haque Enam, the main accused in the case of public stabbing of NGO worker Champa Chakma in Rangunia.
Accused Enamul Haque had collected a knife to kill NGO worker Champa Chakma due of an argument over the arrears of Tk 30,000. On the day of the murder, he first threatened the victim with a knife. At one point, in a fit of rage, he stabbed Champa in the airway with a knife.
After that, Enamul went into hiding in Pahari Forest, Rangamati, Patenga of Chattogram and Chawkbazar, Postagala area of Dhaka. Later, he worked in a hotel in Jaintapur, Sylhet for a daily wage of 200 taka.
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-7) reported such information after the arrest of Enamul involved in the killing of an NGO worker about a month ago. Lieutenant Colonel Mahbub Alam spoke about the killing in a press conference held at RAB-7's media centre at Bahaddarhat in the city on Tuesday. He was arrested from Jaintapur area of Sylhet at 10 pm on Monday. He is the son of Nuruzzaman of North Parua Union of Rangunia.
According to RAB, the victim was working as an assistant manager of the Rangunia branch of the private humanitarian development organization 'Padakep. On April 20 last year, Enamul Haque took a loan of Tk 2 lakh in the name of his mother. Tk 2 lakhs by paying in 40 installments. After that he took another loan of 30 thousand taka in the name of his sister. The sister was supposed to pay Tk 10,000 per month in six installments.
The installment was due on February 28 last. But because of non-payment, Champa started demanding. There is a discussion between them about this.
On the night of March 5, Champa and his colleague left for home after office work. After coming to Dhamraihat area of Rangunia, Champa had an argument with Enamul about Enamul's loan again. At one point, Enamul stabbed his airway with a sharp knife. Later he died after being taken to the upazila health complex.
In the press conference, RAB-7 Lt. Col. Md. Mahbub Alam said that 9 officials of the NGO wanted to go to Enamul's sister's house to collect the loan of Tk 30,000. They were to bring the whole money. But since Enamul's sister-in-law is abroad, she threatens Champa with a knife, thinking that her honor will be lost. Later he got angry and stabbed him to death. After the incident, he hides in different places. After confirming his location, he was arrested. After the interrogation, he was sent to the police station.
