Students of Pabna University of Science and Technology (PUST) staged a protest demanding a fair share of water from international rivers shared by Bangladesh and India. The protest was also against the alleged deliberate opening of the Dambur and Ghazaldoba dams by India, which they claim caused sudden floods in Bangladesh.
The protest took place in front of the main gate of the university. After the rally, hundreds of students marched around the campus, raising slogans such as "Break India's aggression today, remember Abrar," and "Delhi or Dhaka, protect Dhaka."
During the protest, Mirazul Islam, a student from the tenth batch of the Business Administration department, delivered a speech. He stated, "It is illegal to dam any international river, and India is doing just that. They have always treated Bangladesh unfairly. We want freedom from Indian aggression. Students will continue to speak out against this. If needed, we will pressurize the international community to stop this aggression. We demand a fair share of river water."
Golam Rahman, a ninth batch student from the Public Administration department, also addressed the gathering. He said, "India has systematically flooded parts of Bangladesh. We will launch a strong movement against this. We fought for our country's freedom, not to live under such conditions. We remember the struggle to liberate the country from dictatorship on August 5. We have not forgotten the killing of Felani."
The students expressed their determination to continue their protest until their demands are met and called for fair and just treatment in sharing river waters between Bangladesh and India.
