Public welfare should be prioritised in govt dev activities: Minister

Housing and Public Works Minister R A M Obaidul Muktadir Chow­dhury, MP, advised the authorities concerned to take advice of local public representatives in all 

development activities of the government.

He made this call while speaking as the chief guest at the progress review meeting of various development projects being implemented under Chittagong Development Authority (CDA), Public Works division of Chittagong Zone and National Housing Authority, Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) in the conference room of Chittagong Circuit House on Thursday afternoon.

He said that the advice of public representatives makes the development activities fast, people-oriented, successful and worthwhile. Taking their advice and involving them in development activities is one of the prerequisites for ensuring transparency and accountability.

He said that the development activities of the government should be motivated by patriotism giving the highest priority to public welfare.  All existing laws and regulations in the workplace must be properly followed.

He emphasized on coordinating the work of all departments including Chittagong Development Authority (CDA), Chittagong City Corporation (CCC), Directorate of Public Works and National Housing Authority in the development activities of Chittagong city.

Stressing the environmental protection, he said that one should be careful in implementing development activities by filling water bodies.  In any activity, the project must be implemented by protecting the environment.  He emphasized on inclusion of planning circles in all departmental organizations, especially, in integrated development projects.  Before implementing the development project, he drew the attention of the stakeholders to consider the social and environmental impact of the project.
