Public hearing on Sinha murder today

A public hearing organised by the probe committee is going to be held today (Sunday) over the killing of Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan in police firing in Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar. 

The hearingwill commence at 10am at the office of Shamlapur Rohingya Camp in-charge in Teknaf, adjacent to Baharchara police check post where Rtd Major Sina M Rashed was shot dead.

The hearing has been organised by the investigation committee, formed under the direction of the Home Ministry, said a public statement signed by Shahjahan Ali, Cox's Bazar additional district magistrate and also a member of the probe committee last week.

Major (retd) Sinha was shot dead by police at Shamlapur check post under Baharchhara union on Cox's Bazar-Teknaf Marine Drive road on August 31night.  A high-level investigation committee headed by Additional Divisional Commissioner of Chattogram Mohammad Mizanur Rahman was formed to investigate the incident. Committee members, police and army representatives would be present at the public hearing.

Mizanur Rahaman, head of the probe committee said, “A hearing has been arranged so that witnesses and locals can testify about the killing without any hesitation to the committee, he added.”

This committee is investigating the cause and source of the incident. The committee was initially supposed to submit the investigation report within seven working days, but the deadline was extended by seven days more and the tenure will end on August 23.

Mizanur Rahaman expressed hope that the report would be submitted within the stipulated time.

Meanwhile, on Friday, a new investigating officer took charge of the Sinha murder case, the same day, RAB, the investigating agency of the case, has taken seven people into custody, including four policemen remanded in the case by court, for questioning. 

Earlier, Sinha's sister Sharmin Shahriar filed a murder case against seven policemen, including Teknaf Police Station former OC Pradeep Kumar Das and Inspector Liaquat. RAB is investigating the case as per the court order.
