Asif Nazrul, a prominent professor in the Dhaka University Law Department, has issued a critical call for the protection of temples and minority communities amidst the ongoing quota reform protests.
In a Facebook post on Monday, August 5, Nazrul urged protesters to safeguard these vulnerable groups and avoid falling into traps that could exploit the current unrest.
Nazrul, who has been an active supporter of the quota reform movement, emphasized the need for vigilance to prevent attacks on minority communities, which he warned could be exploited under the guise of political or social upheaval. He stressed that no Hindu areas or temples should be harmed, and urged protesters to "protect them with chests" to ensure their safety.
The professor’s message comes in the wake of his participation in a recent protest organized by the anti-discrimination student movement. Reflecting on his experience, Nazrul shared on Facebook how he was deeply moved by the sight of students passionately participating in the march, describing their commitment as a powerful symbol of their struggle.
Nazrul’s call for unity and protection highlights the importance of maintaining peace and safeguarding vulnerable groups during periods of social and political turbulence.
