Chief Justice Dr Syed Refaat Ahmed said that he announced the formation of a separate judicial secretariat to ensure the full independence of the judiciary during a speech he gave to the country's judges on September 21. Now, a comprehensive proposal towards this goal will soon be sent to the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs in this regard.
The Chief Justice said this while speaking as the chief guest at a reception programme organized in his honour by the Faridpur District Bar Association.
The programme was held at Faridpur District Bar Association office on Sunday noon. Faridpur District Bar Association president Advocate Md Abdul Quader presided over the programme while general secretary Advocate Jahid Byapari moderated it.
During the programme, the Chief Justice told the lawyers not to pursue the legal profession merely as a means of livelihood. True success as a lawyer will be achieved when they view it as a way to ensure rights and welfare.
Addressing the lawyers, he further said the judiciary was established to uphold justice and protect people's rights, as stated in the constitution. In July and August of 2024, the common people of this country took to the streets. If the lawyers do not maintain the proper ethical standards in protecting and conducting the legal profession, that achievement will turn into failure.
District and Sessions Judge Md Zia Haider, Faridpur Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Kamrul Hasan Molla, Superintendent of Police Md Abdul Jalil, Faridpur district BNP convener Senior Advocate Shahjahan and others spoke at the programme.
Earlier, the Chief Justice inaugurated the newly constructed rest house for litigants at the Faridpur court premises. Later, he planted a sapling on the court grounds and visited the premises.
