Three separate fire incidents had gutted properties worth Taka one crore on Thursday. The families are now leading inhuman life under the open sky as all of their belongings were gutted during the fire.
Jhenaidah Sadar, Shailkupa and Harinakundu upazila administration have stood by the families and provided rice, pulse, edible oil and other food items at an emergency basis during the night of the day.
The first fire incident took place at Abaipur village in Shailkupa upazila at about 12.15 pm in the noon and 13 houses were burnt to ashes. Personnel of the fire service and civil defense (FSCD) station managed to bring the fire under control, while the belongings were burnt before their arrival.
The fire originated from the oven in the kitchen had engulfed the houses and belongings of Rannu Biswas, Rezaul Biswas, Mithu Biswas, Srimati Khatun, Garibullah, Saka Sheikh and Josna Khatun, affected family members said.
Meanwhile, a devastating fire at village Panami in Jhenaidah Sadar upazila has swept away at 12 families on the street that was also originated from the oven in the kitchen on Thursday afternoon. The FSCD activists from Jhenaidah district town had brought the fire under control.
Another fire incident gutted betel leaf orchards on 12 bighas of land owned by 25 poor farmers at Dariapur under Harinakundu upapzila on same afternoon. The fire caught to 12 betel leaf orchards owned by Raju Mia, Ibadat Hossain, Rustam Ali, Isharat Ali, Nur Haque, Manjer Ali, Bisharat Ali, Nijam Uddin, Latif Hossain, Saurav Ali, Moksed Ali and another 14 farmers.
The fire was originated when some Saheb Ali, a farmer of the village was burning the weeds from his nearest plot in the afternoon, fire fighters said.
Upazila nirbahi officer in (UNO) Jhenaidah Sadar SM Shahin informed he visited the affected families and distributed, cash, food grains and other kitchen items to stand by them.
Shailkupa UNO Kaniz Fatema Liza when contacted said she had visited the affected families immediate after having the information and distributed 30 kilograms of rice and other materials on emergency basis for the distressed family members.
Both SM Shahin and Kaniz Fatema Liza said the district administration will distribute corrugated tin among the affected families on Saturday so that they can build their houses once again for survival on their own lands.
