Programmes to celebrate Nazrul’s 48th death anniv

August 27, marks the 48th death anniversary of Kazi Nazrul Islam, the national poet of Bangladesh. Known for his powerful spirit of rebellion and deep messages of love and humanity, Nazrul's works continue to inspire people across the country. His songs and poems are still cherished, reflecting his lasting impact on the nation’s culture.

To honour Nazrul’s legacy, various events are being held throughout the country. Desh Natok, a well-known theatre group, will perform two plays at the Bangladesh Mahila Samiti in Dhaka. These plays, "Publicity" and "Ognigiri," are based on Nazrul's writings and will be staged on August 28 and 29 at 7:30 PM. The performances are a tribute to Nazrul’s literary genius, bringing his stories to life on stage. Before the plays, The Nazrul Centre is organizing a discussion and cultural program called "Bidrohi" on August 28 at 5:00 PM. This event will explore various aspects of Nazrul’s life and work, highlighting his enduring influence on Bangladeshi culture. Nazrul, born on May 24, 1899, in Churulia, West Bengal, rose to prominence as one of the most important figures in Bengali literature. He composed nearly 3,000 songs, known as Nazrul Geeti, which continue to resonate for their lyrical beauty and powerful messages. During the Liberation War in 1971, his works inspired freedom fighters, becoming anthems of resistance.

Kazi Nazrul Islam passed away on August 29, 1976, and was buried beside the central mosque of Dhaka University. His legacy remains strong, inspiring future generations through theatre, music, and cultural events, reminding everyone of the timeless relevance of his messages of love, rebellion, and humanity.
