Terming women as the drivers of change for nutrition -sensitive agriculture, experts at a consultation workshop on Thursday stressed productivity and economic empowerment of women as a logical priority of agriculture programs and policies that seek to promote agricultural development.
FAO Bangladesh organized the half-day consultation workshop with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and media on ‘Country Programming Strategic Plan (2022-2026) at Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council Training Hall, in Dhaka.
The objective of the consultation meeting is to share the outcomes of the Country Programming Strategic Plan and set achievable goals for next 5 years align with Food and Agriculture Organizations (FAO) of the UN’s mission and visionin achieving food security and sustainable economic development.
It also aims to explore avenues for collaboration and partnership to co-create solutions to the constraints affecting food security, agricultural growth, and employment in the country.
The Director General (Additional Secretary) of the Food Planning and Monitoring Unit , Md. Shahiduzzaman Faruki attended the workshop as the chief guest of the event.
The DG, FPMU in his speech said, food security situation in Bangladesh has improved considerably, especially on the availability side. Further sustainable improvements on access to nutritious food and utilisation needed renewedlarge-scale efforts from the government, civil society and the development partners. In this relation he stressed importance on increased mass awareness and sensitization about transformation of a nutrition-sensitive at the same time nutrition -specific food system.
Mizanur Rahman, National Governance Policy Advisor as the Chair of the event and Dr. Mohammad Monirul Hasan, Market and Trade Policy Advisor, FAO Bangladeshfacilitated the program.
Md. Nur Ahamed Khondaker, Assistant FAO Representative (Program) of FAO Bangladesh gave a welcome speech at the beginning of the workshop.
The workshop was followed by different presentations according to the agendas including a participatory group work and further presentation on key strategic priorities and opportunities of collaboration and partnership with FAO and CSOs improved and sustainable food system in the country.
The workshop was attended by around 40 participants.
FAO’s CPF for 2022-26is a central strategic document that defines the Food and Agriculture Organization's priorities, key areas of technical cooperation, and medium-term country-level programming in support of the Government of Bangladesh and is developed in line with the Government of Bangladesh’s 8th Five Year Plan.

Pursuant this, earlier in this week the FAO Bangladesh organized another consultation workshop with government officials on 7 December 2021, in the city. The workshop brought together around 30 senior officials from different ministries and departments.
