Awami League-backed panel ‘Bangabandhu Ainjibi Parisad’ has swept the elections to Khulna Bar Association. The panel bagged 12 posts out of 14.
Bangabandhu Ainjibi Parisad’s candidates Saiful Islam and KM Iqbal Hossain have been re-elected president and general secretary respectively in the polls held on Sunday at the district bar auditorium.
A total of 1,221 registered voters, among 1,354, cast their votes in the elections. Chairman of the three-member election committee Molla Liakat Ali announced the result on Sunday night.
According to the results, Saiful won president post, bagging 882 votes while Iqbal won general secretary post, getting 714 votes. BNP-Jamaat backed panel ‘Sarbodoliya Ainjibi Oikkya Parishad’ president candidate Akter Zahan Ruku got 315 votes and general secretary candidate Molla Moshiur Rahman Nannu got 464 votes.
AL backed other elected executive members are -Krisna Kumar Dutta and Shakerin Sultana (Vice Presidents), Sheikh Ashraf Ali Pappu (Joint Secretary), Anwara Mumtaz Anna (Literature and Cultural Secretary) and members Noushin Rahman Barsha, Romana Tanha, Abdus Shafique Molla Jony, Amirul Islam Mukul, Indrajit Shil and F M Saidur Rahman.
BNP-Jamaat backed panel just won two posts. They are – Sheikh Muhammad Moin Uddin Maruf (Library Secretary) and executive member AK Basher.
