Roppur Medicare in Pabna’s Ishwardi was sealed eight days after the owner and manager of the clinic was arrested as they were providing fake coronavirus tests. The Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex was raided on Thursday at the behest of the Pabna Civil Surgeon.
This private clinic was collecting coronavirus samples and faking Covid-19 certificates. They were deceiving people as they do not have any approval to carry out coronavirus tests. The clinic was also charging people with additional bills of Tk 5-6 thousand per test.
The Upazila Health Department raided the clinic on Thursday on various charges including fraud in the name of treatment. The clinic was then sealed.
Ishwardi Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer FA Asma Khan conducted the operation at Medicare. Shafiqul Islam Shamim, a resident doctor of the health complex was with him at the time.
According to the members of the expedition team and police sources, the biggest project in the country is the Rooppur nuclear power plant project.
Amid the coronavirus crisis, thousands of local and foreign workers work in the ongoing project every day. According to the new rules, new workers have to be tested to see if they are affected by corona before joining the work.
Rooppur Medicare authorities set up temporary camps in an abandoned brick field next to the project to collect samples. People in the vicinity, including the project workers, started giving samples without realising that the clinic authorities were providing fake certificates.
Dr. Asma Khan said the clinic had been cheating in the name of treatment, including collecting and testing coronavirus samples without approval.
For these reasons, the District Civil Surgeon's Office directed to conduct an operation in the clinic. The clinic was sealed after a raid was carried out on Thursday as per the instructions.
