Syed Alam, aged 50, passed away at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Wednesday, as confirmed by Md Bachchu Mia, the in-charge of Dhaka Medical College police outpost.
Alam was brought to DMCH unconscious from Dhaka Central Jail around 1:30 am on Tuesday. Despite efforts, doctors pronounced him dead after examination.
According to Md Bachchu Mia, Syed Alam had suddenly fallen ill while in jail. Upon the advice of the prison doctor, he was transferred to Dhaka Medical, where his death was confirmed during examination.
The body has been placed in the mortuary pending autopsy. Details regarding the charges against him were not immediately available.
