Students of government primary schools in various districts across the country are now practicing democratic norms from their childhood. As part of the process, they participated in electoral system and elected their representatives. Voting at the government primary schools took place on Sunday. The voting began at 9:00am and continued till 1:00pm. The students from class three to five cast their votes to elect seven representatives from each school.
Students discharged duties as election commissioners, presiding officers and polling officers. They were working under the supervision of headmasters and assistant headmasters. Our Correspondents from several district sent news on the issue.
In Jhenidah, the students’ council elections were held in all the primary schools in the district peacefully. Out Roving Correspondent visited a number of primary schools including Khan E Khoda Government Primary School and witnessed that the minor students have been casting their votes towards future democratic practices.
District primary education officer (DPEO) in Jhenidah Jahangir Alam said that the children have been electing their seven ministers including water resources minister, entertainment minister, cleanness minister and textbooks minister. The ministers will ensure servicers for the students till next elections.
In Bogura, like other parts of the country, the student council election was held in the district amid festive mood, reports our Bogura Correspondent. Visiting Khanpur Govt Primary School at Sherpur in Bogura, it was seen that the primary school students were casting votes and discharging duties as presiding officer and polling officers during student’s council election.
Assistant teachers of the school Saidur Rahman Sayeed, Lovely Yeasmin, Mahfuza Khatun and others observed the elections. In Rajshahi, election to students’ council in 8,654 primary schools in eight districts of Rajshahi division was held amidst festivity. Abul Kalam Azad, Divisional Deputy Director of the Department of Primary Education, said that students took part in all process of the election and also cast their votes to elect the council members spontaneously.
He added that building democratic attitude and tolerance of others’ opinions among students and their involvement in school development activities was the main objective of the council. The elected councils will meet once a month and a general council will be held every six months with the presence of all students.
Ayub Ali, Headmaster of Ghoramara Government Primary School, said the council will monitor seven main tasks in terms of books and learning instruments, health, sports, culture, water resources, midday meals and greetings and entertainment. The respective headmaster will assign the duties to the representatives of the council.
