Although the prices of vegetable is going a bit lower comparing last week but there is no sign of lowering prices of essential commodities like rice, sugar, dal or oil in the city markets ahead of the month of Ramadan.
Visiting different markets including Karwanbazar and Hatirpool markets in the city on Friday this correspondent found that ripe tomatoes are sold at Tk 60 per kg while green tomatoes are sold at Tk 40. Potatoes prices found varyingin different stalls from Tk 40 to 50 while carrots similarly Tk 40-50, papaya is being sold at Tk 30 as last week, a medium size gourd is sold at tk 60-80. besides lemon per hali at tk 30-40, dhundal at tk 70 like last week, bean are sold at tk 50-70 basis on quality, cabbage & cauliflower per piece at tk 40, radish at tk 25-30, green chillies has decreased by 20 tk to 80 tk per kg compared to last week.
Locally grown garlic is being sold at Tk 200 per KG whereas Indian garlic is at Tk 240. Prices of both have reduced by Tk 20 to 30 per kg.
Vegetable seller Abul Kashem said, “Vegetable prices is going a bit lower than that of last week. It is expected that the prices of all kinds of vegetables will come down in a few days.”It was also seen that prices of desi lentils Tk 140, Indian lentils at Tk 110, Mugdal at Tk 170 which was similar to last week. Sugar is at tk 140. Onion grown locally is being sold in the retail market at tk 80-90 but Ginger price has increased by tk 20 per kg compared to last week. Pakistani Chicken prices have decreased by tk 20 per kg compared to last week but Broiler chicken prices have remained the same.
Rice is available within the range between Tk 55 to 85 per kg depending on the varieties and brands. The rice seller Kamal Hossen said, “ I do not see any sign of rice price going down.”
Looking around the fish market its appeared to be sold, Rui is at tk 300 -500 per kg depending on size, Mrigel fish at tk 250, pangas is at tk 180 -230, Tilapia is at tk 230, Cuttle fish is at tk 350-500, Moha shoil is at tk 300-500 and Horn fish is at tk 300-400 per kg.
