In the span of a week, the price of chicken eggs has increased by Tk 10 per dozen. Vegetable prices are also increasing in the same way. There is no vegetable available in the market below Tk 60 per kg except a few whereas the supply of vegetables is sufficient.
Visiting the capital’s different kitchen markets on Friday such scenario of price variation of essentials was observed.
A dozen chicken eggs are being sold at Tk 145 which was Tk 135 last week. And the price of duck eggs remains unchanged at Tk 165.
Eggplant is being sold at Tk 80 per kilogramme (kg), radish at Tk 60 per kg, cucumber at Tk 70 per kg, bitter gourd at Tk 80 per kg, okra at Tk 60 per kg, pointed gourd at Tk 60 per kg, Tomato at Tk 120, benas at Tk 160, Papaya at Tk 30, snake gourd at Tk 60 and yard long bean is being sold at Tk 80 per kg.

In the span of a week Sorna rice is being sold at Tk 50 to Tk 52 per kg and BR-28 is selling at Tk 60. Besides, Miniket and Nazirshail rice varieties are being sold at higher prices than before. These varieties are being sold at Tk 70 to Tk 84 per kg, depending on quality.
A rice trader in Karwan Bazar area said that the price of rice has increased in the wholesale market that affected the retail market. In addition, now the rice season is over. Although it was learnt that the government is importing rice, but it is yet to arrive at the market. Due to this, the price of rice is increasing.
Beef is selling at Tk 700 per kg and mutton is selling at Tk 900 per kg. Broiler chicken price has increased by Tk 10 to Tk 180 per kg, which was available for Tk 170 last week. Besides, layer chicken is being sold at Tk 300 per kg and sonali chicken is selling for Tk 320 per kg.
