Price of vegetables on the rise again

Prices of all kinds of vegetables have gone up in most of the city grocery markets during the week. Besides, the price of beef has also increased. 

The situation has been observed after visiting a number of kitchen markets in the capital on Friday.

Traders are saying that due to the low supply of winter vegetables at the end of the season, the prices have increased. They also said that prices might increase further next week.

Compared to last week, the price of almost all types of vegetables has increased by about Tk 15-20 per kg.

Tomatoes are being sold at Tk 30-40 per kg, which was sold at Tk 20-30 last week. The price of beans has increased. Beans are being sold at Tk 40-80 per kg, which was available between Tk 30 and Tk 60 last week. The price of carrots remained stable. A kilogram of carrot is being sold at between Tk 20 and Tk 30 at the previous rate.

Per piece cauliflower is being sold between Tk 40 and Tk 60. Turnips are being sold at Tk 30-40 per kg. The prices of these two vegetables have remained unchanged during the week. Per kg yard long bean is being sold at Tk 50 and 60. Per piece, gourd is being sold at Tk 50-60. Red spinach is being sold at Tk 10-15 per bundle and spinach at Tk 15-20.

Green bananas are being sold at Tk 40 per four pieces, per kg papaya at Tk 30-40 and per four pieces lemon is being sold at Tk 20.

However, the price of cucumber has increased the most. Last week, the price of cucumber in the wholesale market was Tk 30 per kg. This week the price of cucumber has crossed Tk 50 per kg.

New and old potatoes are being sold at Tk 15-20 per kg in markets. Green chilies are being sold at Tk 60-80 per kg. 

Meanwhile, broiler chickens are being sold at Tk 150-160 per kg. Layer chicken is being sold at Tk 250 per kg with an increase of Tk 20.

The price of beef has gone up in most markets. Beef is being sold at Tk 620 per kg. Last week, beef was being sold at Tk 580-600 per kg.

Locally produced onions are being sold at Tk 30-35 per kg while Indian onions are being sold at Tk 40 per kg. 

Dried red chilies are being sold at Tk 150 to Tk 250 per kg, garlic at Tk 80-130, ginger at Tk 140 and turmeric at Tk 160 and Tk 220 per kg. Besides, Indian lentils are being sold at Tk 90-95 per kg and local lentils at Tk 110-115 per kg.

Prices of edible oil have also increased in most of the markets. Per liter, edible (soybean) oil is being sold at Tk 168.

Eggs are being sold at earlier prices in the markets. A dozen of eggs is being sold at Tk 110 while a dozen of duck eggs is being sold at Tk 180.
