Price fall in large-cap drives stocks further down

Country's both the bourses-- Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) - on Tuesday plunged further due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities. DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went down by 51.52 points or 0.85 percent to 6,006.88. Two other indices also ended sharply lower with the DSE 30 Index, comprising blue chips, plunged 12.05 points to finish at 2,063.83 and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) lost 7.74 points to close at 1,309.91.

Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, decreased to Taka 5635.32 million, which was Taka 7541.48 million at the previous session of the week. Out of 398 issues traded, 309 declined, 45 advanced and 44 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

SSSTEEL topped the turnover chart, followed by ORIONINFU, FUWANGCER, GOLDENSON and LOVELLO.

ASIATICLAB was the day's top gainer, posting 9.93 percent gain while KTL was the worst loser, losing 8.87 per cent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended sharply lower with the CSE All Share Price Index - CASPI -losing 124.13 points to settle at 17,263.27 and the Selective Categories Index - CSCX shedding 75.05 points to close at 10,365.83.

Of the issues traded, 145 declined, 60 advanced and 28 issues remained unchanged on the CSE.

The port city's bourse traded 58.62 lakh shares and mutual fund units with turnover value worth about Taka 16.94 crore.
