Kuakata municipal employees organised a human chain and held a press conference against the OC of Mahipur police station. A human chain was held in front of Zilla Parishad Dak Bungalow after the press conference at Kuakata Press Club at 10 am on Thursday.
At that time they protested the arbitrary and power abuse of OC Md. Abul Khair. Municipal executive officer Kavya Lal Chakraborty said that on the occasion of Eid, the employees of Kuakata municipality were working continuously alongside the police to keep the travel of tourists coming to Kuakata smooth and free from traffic jams. To question the matter, the OC of Mohipur police station arrested Md. Yunuch, the municipal office assistant, and took him to the police station on the charge of extortion. Meanwhile, the municipal employee held a press conference regarding physical assault at the Kuakata Press Club. They protested against such actions of the OC and threatened to strike. Mayor Md. Anwar Hawladar has expressed anger over the arrest of the municipal employee.
In this regard, OC Abul Khair denied the allegations of physical asault and said that a municipal employee was called to the police station for questioning whether he was extorting vehicles and was later released.
Kuakata Tourist Police, Mahipur Police Station and Kuakata Municipality work together to maintain traffic order due to the large
presence of tourists in Kuakata since July 12.
