The resignations of vice-chancellors from three universities have been accepted by the chancellors, according to a notification issued by the Secondary and Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education on Wednesday. The universities include Islamic Arabic University, Rabindra University, and Barishal University.
As per the notification, Islamic Arabic University's Vice-Chancellor Muhammad Abdur Rashid, Rabindra University's Vice-Chancellor Md. Shah Azam, and Barisal University's Vice-Chancellor Mohammad Badruzzaman Bhuiyan resigned from their positions, and their resignations were accepted by the President and Chancellor of the universities, Sahabuddin. Muhammad Abdur Rashid
resigned on August 15, Md. Shah Azam on August 22, and Mohammad Badruzzaman Bhuiyan on August 20.
Following the resignation, the ministry's notification formally confirmed that the Chancellor of the respective universities had accepted these resignations.
The resignations come after the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, prompting a wave of resignations among vice-chancellors and other top officials at public universities across the country. This has led to significant changes in leadership at various institutions.
In response, the government has started appointing new vice-chancellors in several universities, including Dhaka University, National University, and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU). The reshuffle aims to address the leadership vacuum left by the recent resignations.
The resignations and new appointments mark a period of transition for the higher education sector, with changes expected in academic and administrative policies. The Ministry of Education continues to monitor the situation closely to ensure that the affected universities operate smoothly during this time of change.
