Possibilities of finding new iron mine in Dinajpur has emerged. Geological Survey of Bangladesh (GSB) has identified potential mining locations. The location of this potential mine has been identified in Keshabpur mouza under Punti union no 10 of Chirirbandar upazila in Dinajpur.
Earlier, a well was dug in 2001 at Ambari of the adjoining upazila Parbatipur in the hope of finding a copper mine, but it could not be found. GSB officials have started feasibility study after finding new mines. GSB, after the last iron mine at Isabpur in Hakimpur, this time has identified the location of a new potential mine in Keshabpur mouza of Chirirbandar upazila. In the meantime, the investigation team of the department has started digging the well to check the feasibility.
The first three months will be spent digging wells in search of mineral resources. The last-minute preparations are in progress there. The thickness of the raw material of iron in new mines is much higher. So they are hopeful about finding other valuable resources including copper along with iron. Necessary machinaries are being brought to Keshabpur.
Signboards have been put up announcing the area preserved. An official, who did not want to be named, said the Director General of the Bangladesh Geological Survey Bangladesh-GSB, Dr Moha Sher Ali will inaugurate the well excavation work. They did not want to disclose anything else beforehand. In this regard, the chairman of Punti union no 10 Nure Kamal said he received a copy of a letter signed by Abdul Aziz Patwari, Director of Bangladesh Geological Survey Bangladesh to the Deputy Commissioner.
The letter requested to provide ancillary assistance, security, provision of information and data, travel and guidance to the officilas during the GDH-76/21 well drilling operation in Keshabpur area. The letter was also sent to the Superintendent of police, Chirirbandar Upazila Nirbahi Officer, Chirirbandar police station. Deputy Director (Drilling Engineer) Md. Masud Rana is the head of the well digging team. Deputy Director (Drilling Engineer) Md Nihajul Islam, Assistant Director (Drilling Engineer) Md Nazmul Hossain Khan, Assistant Director (Drilling Engineer) Manzur Ahmed Elahi and Assistant Director (Drilling Engineer) Md Rokonuzzaman are working in association with him.
