At least three stages and a gallery with the capacity to accommodate around 90,000 guests will be built as part of the huge and colorful arrangement on the occasion of the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on March 17, said sources close to the organisers.
Besides, in and around the venue, the National Parade Ground, which is also known as the Old Airport in capital Dhaka, will be decorated reflecting the history and heritage of Bangladesh, they said. Moreover, the inaugural functions will be displayed through 19 LED Displays across the country. One of the displays will be installed at the capital’s Hatirjheel.
With the celebration of the birth centenary of Bangabandhu on March 17, the Mujib Barsho will also be inaugurated. The Mujib Barsho will be celebrated for one year through various programmes from March 17 in 2020 to March 17 in 2021. According to the sources, the biggest one among the three stages will be 108 feet in length and 100 feet in width while each of the two other stages will be 60 feet in length and 60 feet in width. The biggest stage will be built in the middle of the two other stages.
All the three stages will be used for various programmes. Awami League president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also the eldest daughter of Bangabandhu, will inaugurate the function in the afternoon on March 17 in presence of Presidents and Prime Ministers of different countries, their ministers and diplomats.
During the inaugural period, 100 pigeons will be freed into the air while parachute jumping will also be started at the same time. Fireworks and cultural functions will be started in the evening. Moreover, aiming at the celebration of the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, elaborate programmes have been taken up across the country.
Immediately after the reelection as the general secretary of Bangladesh Awami League for the second time, Obaidul Quader in his post-council press briefing on Saturday said , “Celebration of the birth centenary of Bangabandhu, perfect implementation of the Mujib Borsho from March 17, and the golden jubilee of the independence are the main focuses to the party. Besides, the implementation of the Vision-2021 is another focal point.”
All the ministries and agencies in the government, ruling Bangladesh Awami League, its different wings and front organisations and people from all walks of life are also part of the celebration. According to sources, as part of the programmes, at least 10 prominent artists of the country will be painting the portraits of Bangabandhu in 10 giant canvases eight feet wide and 24 feet high each. Each of the portraits will be elaborate and describe the historic roles of the founder of Bangladesh and its independence.
Many prominent lyricists remain busy writing a theme song for the function while another group of prominent artists is busy with the creation of a logo for it. The ‘Countdown’ process started from January 10, the day of the ‘Home Return, of Bangabandhu in 1972. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the countdown programme.
According to sources, a 102-member committee led by Awami League president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working for the arrangement in the celebration of the birth centenary of Bangabandhu. It should be mentioned that the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was born at Tungipara in Gopalganj district on March 17 in 1920. From a student leader, he became a world leader. Bangladesh gained independence under his leadership. However, unfortunately, he was assassinated along with his family members on August 15 in 1975, only three and a half years after the independence of the country.
