Apprehending a deterioration in the ongoing dengue outbreak during the Eid vacation, medical experts and researchers have opined some precautionary measures can help improve the situation. According to the weather forecast, there is a probability of heavy rain across the country including the capital during the 9-day long vacation on occasion of holy Eid-ul-Adha. Stagnant rain water creates a favourable environment for the breeding of Aedes mosquitos, responsible for spreading Dengue fever.
Everyone needs to be more conscious to stop the spread of Aedes mosquitos. The holidaymakers will have to take proper measures to keep their homes clean. Those who will stay in the capital and will slaughter sacrificial cattle must be very careful about waste disposal and cleaning of blood and leftovers. While talking to Bangladesh Post, medical experts and researchers have said how people can reduce the risk of Dengue in this situation.
Professor Dr. Gopal Das, teacher of the Entomology Department of Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh, told Bangladesh Post that the life cycle of Aedes mosquitos is different from other mosquito species. Most of the mosquitos in the country are anopheles, whose breeding place is dirty spaces. But Aedes mosquito’s breeding space is clean water, he added.
“If we want to prevent the spread of dengue, we have to stop spreading of Aedes mosquitos. Its life cycle depends on four steps - egg, larva, pupa and adult. Mosquitoes can live and reproduce inside and outside human residences. The entire life cycle, from an egg to an adult, takes approximately 8-10 days,” Dr Das said.
He opined that those who will leave the capital and other cities and towns for Eid vacation, must ensure that their apartments are free from Aedes breeding places. It is to be noted that during the Eid-ul-Adha, insects and other water-borne diseases increase across the country. If the city dwellers apply proper concentration, it can be minimized remarkebly.As hundreds of thousands of city dwellers are leaving the capital, public and private transports should take measures so that Aedes mosquitos cannot be transported to other districts.
