Popular theatre group Prachyanaut will perform its well-known play “Pulsiraat” at the Nilima Ibrahim Auditorium of Bangladesh Mahila Samity in Dhaka on Thursday. This marks a return for the play after a long break.
“Pulsiraat” is based on the famous novel “Men in the Sun” by Palestinian writer Ghassan Khanafani. The play has been translated by Masumul Alam and scripted by Monirul Islam. It is directed by Kazi Toufiqul Islam Emon.
The story follows three Palestinian refugees named Abu Kayes, Asad, and Marwan. They are trying to leave the refugee camps in Iraq and travel to Kuwait, hoping to find work as laborers during the oil boom. The men make arrangements with a clerk to be smuggled to Kuwait by a driver named Abul Khaijuran. However, they face rough treatment and humiliation along the way.
Once they finally secure a way to travel, they must hide in the back of a truck as they cross the desert to reach Kuwait. At several checkpoints, they are forced to hide in a large, empty water tank under the scorching midday sun while the driver manages the necessary paperwork to pass through.
The play features talented actors, including Azad Abul Kalam, Shahriar Sajeeb, Monirul Islam Rubel, Saiful Islam Journal, and Chetona Rahman in key roles. Audiences can expect a powerful performance that highlights the struggles of refugees seeking a better life. Don’t miss this opportunity to witness an important story brought to life on stage.
