The Power Division has initiated to train some 2,875 people across the country free of cost as part of programmes chalked out to celebrate the Mujib Year 2020-21.
The main objective of the programme is to create skilled electricians under different entities of the Power Division, official said.
Youths who are little educated can avail the training and get certificates on completion of the two-month training.
Prime Minister’s Energy Advisor Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury inaugurated the programme on Thursday through videoconferencing from Power Division office in the capital while State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid was present at the function as a special guest.
Officials from some 14 districts, including Dhaka, Chattogram, Rajshahi, Khulna, Rangpur Barishal, Sylhet and Gazipur, were connected with the function online.
Power Division’s Senior Secretary Dr Ahmad Kaikaus, Energy Secretary Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Munim, Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) Chairman Khaled Mahmud and other senior officials of the Power Division and chief executives of different power organisations were also present at the function.
Addressing the function, Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi said the government has succeeded in power generation because of its concerted efforts.
Nasrul Hamid said there is no alternative to training to create skilled manpower.
That’s why the Power Division took the initiative for training people, he said.
Ahmad Kaikaus said people who will be provided training will be able to go abroad as skilled manpower.
